2Oth ANNIVERSARY "A WOMEN'S CIRCLE"
Exactly 20 years to the day that Wilma Harder began broadcasting her
radio show "A Women's Circle", she and many others will celebrate the
occasion appropriately, with a concert by singer-songwriter and activist
Holly Near in Goshen College's Umble Center on April 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Harder, a 1983 Goshen College alum and owner of a jewelry studio, began
playing women's music on the radio in 1986 on a late-night shift at WGCS
91.1FM, the college-owned radio station. "I was tired of hearing only
one or two women's voices per day on the radio, and thought I'd do my
part to give women more exposure on the airwaves," she said. "Not only
that, but I knew there was a lot of good women's music being written and
sung that was not being played on the radio."
To honor the 20th anniversary of "A Women's Circle", singer and activist
Holly Near will take to the stage at Goshen College, sponsored by The
Globe, 91.1FM. An immense vocal talent, Near's career as a singer has
been profoundly defined by an unwillingness to separate her passion for
music from her passion for human dignity. She is a skilled performer and
an outspoken ambassador for peace who brings to the stage an integration
of world consciousness, spiritual discovery and theatricality. She will
perform with pianist Scot Woolley.
Tickets are for reserved seating and cost $20 in advance, $25 at the
door. They are available at the Goshen College Welcome Center by calling
(574) 535-7566.

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY ELECTION BOARD MEETING
Although write-in votes for the 2006 Secretary of State race were
tallied in St. Joseph County, the votes were never attributed to a
specific candidate. In other words, if you voted for Bill Stant for
Secretary of State, you were disenfranchised by the St. Jo. Co. Election
Board. Your vote didn't count. Worse still, there were other declared
write-in candidates for other offices whose votes were never attributed
to them. Greens estimate that 400 to 500 voters in St. Joseph County
were disenfranchised in all.
The St. Joe Valley Greens are pressing the St. Joseph County Election
Board and the Indiana Election Division to acknowledge that citizens
were disenfranchised in this and other counties, to find out how this
happened and to ensure it never happens again.
If you are interested in grassroots democracy in Indiana, please join
the Greens at the Election Board Meeting on Wednesday, April 18, 10 AM,
4th Floor, County-City Building, downtown South Bend. Please come to our
meeting on April 12, as we will discuss the issues in seeking to set
things right.

ANARCHIST CONFERENCE
"Finding Our Roots" is a conference in Chicago to discuss anarchist
theory. The date: April 27-29. Within the last several years,
Chicagoland anarchists and radicals have become disconnected and
disorganized and there appears to be a lack of critical theory. We aim
to change this!

JUSTICE FOR IMMIGRANTS MAY 1 MARCH
We invite all supporters of comprehensive immigration reform and earned
legalization to join us for our peaceful march where families can feel
safe and attend. We expect no trouble; we trust in the protection the
police will provide. To further help, we will appoint and train our own
peacekeepers to assist the police. Wear white and bring the American Flag.
Our Message: We urge the U.S. House of Representatives to pass
Comprehensive Immigration Reform along the lines of the Gutierrez-Flake
bill, The STRIVE ACT OF 2007 (Security Through Regularized Immigration
and a Vibrant Economy Act of 2007).
We urge the U.S. Senate to pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform along
the lines of the original Kennedy-McCain bill.
We urge that ICE, the immigration enforcement arm of the Homeland
Security Agency, be ordered to suspend raids, at least until the House
of Representatives, the Senate and the President have a chance to debate
and pass comprehensive immigration reform.
Please join us as we march for Justice for Immigrants.

BIKE TO WORK DAY
Greetings,
I'm the chairman of this year's Bike to Work Week campaign in Michiana
and invite your station to cover our Bike to Work Day event the morning
of Thursday, May 17th, 2007. From 7am to 7pm we will host a bike
commuter welcome tent at the S. Bend Football Hall of Fame gridiron,
followed by a major bike ride at 5:30pm along newly-painted bicycle
safetly lanes in S. Bend. Our bike tents will welcome all bicycle
commuters with free S.B. Chocolate coffee, food, free bike mechanics,
drawings for new bicycle/accessories, live music, discount coupons for
local restaurants/businesses, literature on bicycle safety and local
bicycling groups (see attached flyer).
Last year, our first, people from all over S. Bend bicycled in and
registered at our tent including Mayor Steve Leuke. Several local TV and
radio stations also provided live coverage. This year's bigger event
will be preceded by billboards, our internet website
(www.southbendbikes.wordpress.com), a display at the St. Joseph
County-City Building, radio and SB Tribune coverage. Our Bicycle
Coalition story will also be featured in an upcoming In Michiana
magazine article.
This is an exciting year for bicycle enthusiasts in Michiana: Mayor
Leuke has committed to paint-striping 10 miles of local streets with
bicycle safety lanes, an effort he promises to continue for the next 5
years. By the time of this event, the new bike lanes will be striped,
street-signed and open for public use.
Thank you for covering this important event in Michiana.
Sincerely,
Jeff Nixa, Chair
