MICHIANA CALL TO ACTION
January 19-26.
The Michiana Social Forum invites area residents to participate in a Michiana Call to Action during the week of January 19-26, 2008. The week's activities are planned to coincide with the World Social Forum's call for a global week of action (www.wsf2008.net). Throughout the week, Michiana groups speaking out for labor rights, peace and justice, and sustainability will lead us in actions supporting specific initiatives. Working together we aim to build new relationships across different organizations and constituencies. The week's activities will culminate on Saturday during an event at the St. Joseph County Public Library where people can learn more about the World and U.S. Social Forums, reflect on the week's activities, become familiar with local groups and initiatives, and join in discussions about launching a local social forum process in Michiana.
For more information about the Michiana Social Forum, visit our web site at http://www.michianasocialforum.org/About.html
PROGRESSIVE TOWN HALL
If you are you looking for a fairly easy yet educational and progressive New Years resolution, the Progressive Town Hall will meet to discuss a topic that relates to our fair habitat, the cities of South Bend and Mishawaka.
On January 20th at 4pm in the Fiddler’s Hearth Pub, we will discuss the concept of Cool Cities and how we can help our cities to sign on and see the benefits. Christine Fiordalis from the Sierra Club and guests will be on hand to give all the information. Also, Kathleen Petitjean will be discussing the hydropower project for the St. Joseph River in "The River that Runs through Us: Embracing the Force that Birthed South Bend".
We will invite the city councils and mayors from both South Bend and Mishawaka to attend to also learn about this great initiative. Food and drink are available continuously during the town hall.
GREEN TV
It's Comcastic! GreenTV is dead. Long live GreenTV.
Comcast pulled the plug on public access programming in Indiana on December 15. The South Bend Department of Public Works may hold hearings in response.
Whatever the official reaction, the issue of reformatting GreenTV for broadcast on the World Wide Web is on the agenda for the St. Joe Valley Green's Congress on January 12. If you have an interest in public access programming, please attend the Congress.
