:: GREEN MICIHIANA RECYCLING FAIR

A Sustainability Fair for Home, Garden and Road
Saturday, April 12, 2008; 10 am - 4 pm
Administration Building Cafeteria
Indiana University South Bend

[Attached is a flyer: GreenmichianaApr12.pdf. Please circulate.]

As part of our year‐long series of events related to Indiana University
South Bend’s campus theme: Sustainable Communities, we are hosting a
sustainability fair and recycling drive to raise public awareness of
local “green” businesses, alternatives in construction, transportation,
and gardening, ways to reduce waste and recycle more.

There will be over 30 businesses. Try out the commuter bicycles,
electric cars, and enjoy the live music. Come learn about local
resources for increasing the energy efficiency of your home, green
decorating tips, gardening, and transportation.

The fair will mark the finale to a week‐long recycling drive for plastic
bags and styrofoam (an expansion of the very successful BagFest last
year in which over 72,000 plastic bags were collected). We will also
provide information on materials that can be recycled in our area
(examples: TVs, batteries, paint, and more).

Materials accepted for recycling (Drop off at Administration Building
cafeteria)

* Styrofoam packing peanuts: collected April 8 - 12

* White expanded polystyrene (e.g. white Styrofoam coolers,
and Styrofoam used to package electronic equipment and other
products, expanded polystyrene #6; styrofoam plates and cups
CANNOT be accepted): collected April 8 - 12

* Plastic Grocery bags (must be clean): collected April 8 - 12

* Personal home computers will be collected by Free Geek Michiana
on Saturday.

Free Geek Michiana (FGM) accepts computer equipment for free, except for
monitors. Monitors are $15, working or not. Please donate cash with the
gift of your computer if you can. FGM’s primary mission is to keep
computer components out of our landfill. FGM refurbs computer systems to
distribute to low income families. Currently, FGM is preparing computers
for a Parent Teacher Organization to give to 60 targeted households in
the Perley primary school district in South Bend.

This event is free and open to the public.

:: PROGRESSIVE TOWN HALL

The Progressive Town Hall at Fiddler’s Hearth Pub on Sunday April 20th at
4pm to discuss Education.

What, as citizens, can we do to improve our areas education system?

We pay taxes, some of us have kids in school, yet we feel at a loss when
high dropout rates, gun violence, and overuse of busing take over our
lives. Come to the Progressive Town Hall to discuss this issue with area
leaders and educators.

This is your opportunity to ask the questions you’ve always wanted to
ask and get answers.
