Subject: Reclaiming the Ground of Peace

Greetings Folks

Rev. Kato and Sister Clare from the Japanese Buddhist Peace Pagoda in
Leverett, Massachusetts, have been walking with eight other folks since
February 18 on a month walk called "Reclaiming the Ground of Peace": a
4-week walk to find ways to root and nourish the power of peace and
equity, locally, nationally, and globally. Along the route from western
Mass. into R.I. and beyond, they are hoping to have the Mayor of each
town to sign onto Mayors for Peace.
Mayors for Peace began in 1982 by the Mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki,
Japan. Mayors for Peace is a network of over 1550 mayors globally who
have committed their cities to stand for the abolition of all nuclear
weapons f rom the Earth by the year 2020.

On Friday March 9th. the walkers walk from Taunton Mass. to Pawtucket
where they will meet with Mayor Joseph Doyle in Pawtucket City Hall at
11:30AM. In the afternoon, they will walk from Pawtucket to Providence
and meet with Mayor David Cicillini 3:30pm at Providence City Hall. You
are invited to walk any part of the journey. Phone number of the walkers
is 202-957-8324.

Saturday March 10th is a rest day for the walkers. 5pm there will be a
potluck supper at the Providence Friends Meeting House, 99 Morris Ave
(Morris & Olney Streets), Providence. All are invited to attend.

Also looking for a person or persons to provide a simple vegeatarian meal
for the 10 walkers on the Friday around 6pm when they arrive at the
Friends Meeting House, Providence. If you can help, please phone Phil
461-3683.
