Hi, RI Greens; The Phoenix says that tonight's Phil Ochs Tribute at
Stone Soup is a "must-see" show. $15 at 8 o'clock at St. Paul's Church,
50 Park Place, Pawtucket. That's at Exit 27 off Route 95 just beyond the
Ground Round on the street where the DMV Registry used to be. [Ah, RI
directions]
Here's what the Phoenix wrote:
ONE MORE PARADE
One of the great folk music activists of the mid-'60s, PHIL OCHS made good
on all those dylan influences by motivating his free-speech, anti-war
brethern to get off their asses and hit the streets. Whether he was
rocking some carpe diem tunes ("I'm Gonna Say It Now," When I'm Gone," I
Ain't Marching Any More") or throwing punches (Here's to the State of
Mississippi", "The Men Behind the Guns," "Cops of the World") he made an
impact that's still felt. Though his name doesn't roll off many tongues
these days, a handful of artists at the Stone Soup Coffeehouse haven't
forgotten the power of Ochs's tunes> John Flynn, David Roth, Greg
Greenway, Kim & Reggie Harris, Pat Wictor, and Magpie will celebrate the
singer's canon. Ochs's sister, Sonny, hosts the program at St. Paul's
Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place, at 8 p.m. [$15] 401.457.7147.
And Bob Gulla had this nice item in his column:
>There s a must-see folk show at Stone Soup on Saturday. It s PHIL OCHS
>SONG NIGHT with a lineup of fabulous artists paying tribute to Ochs.
>Performers include JOHN FLYNN, DAVID ROTH, GREG GREENWAY, KIM & REGGIE
>HARRIS, PAT WICTOR, and MAGPIE. Ochs s sister, Sonny, will host. Tickets
>are $15. Get there early. Call 401.457.7147 for details.
Hope to see you there. Peace. Richard.
